Fruit Facts & Fun Reads
Hey fruit fam! Did you know there’s so much more to our Filipino fruits than just incredible sweetness? Here are some fun facts about the amazing produce we bring straight from the Philippines to Ireland:
1. The Sweetest Mango in the World
Our Carabao Mangoes hold the Guinness World Record for sweetness — naturally sugary, juicy, and absolutely irresistible.
2. The Queen of Fruits — Mangosteen
Mangosteen is beloved across Southeast Asia for its delicate sweet-tart flavour and stunning purple rind. It’s also packed with antioxidants and has been prized for its health benefits for centuries.
3. Calamansi — The Filipino Lemon
This tiny citrus fruit punches way above its weight. Used in everything from dipping sauces to marinades and refreshing drinks, Calamansi is a staple in every Filipino kitchen and is loaded with Vitamin C.
4. Saba Banana — Not Just for Eating Fresh
Unlike regular bananas, Saba is firm and starchy, making it perfect for cooking. It’s the star of classic Filipino street foods like Turon (banana spring rolls) and Banana Cue (caramelised banana skewers).
5. Singkamas (Jicama) — The Crunchy Hydrator
Singkamas is about 90% water, making it one of the most refreshing snacks around. Crisp, mildly sweet, and incredibly versatile, it’s been enjoyed in the Philippines since the Spanish introduced it in the 17th century.
6. Philippine Pomelo — The Giant of Citrus
Our Magallanes variety from Davao is one of the most sought-after pomelos in the Philippines. With its thick green-to-yellow rind and sweet pink-red flesh, it’s a showstopper at any table.
7. Philippine Santol — The Cotton Fruit
Also known as “Cotton Fruit, or Lolly Fruit”, Santol is a unique tropical favourite with soft, cotton-like flesh and a delicious sweet-tart flavour. It can be enjoyed fresh or used in traditional Filipino dishes, jams, and preserves.
Our Bangkok variety is known for its larger fruit and generous flesh — a truly unique taste of the Philippines!
